Our mission
Our mission is to give kids the emotional skills to act on their values, even when emotions run high, so they become more effective in school, work, family and life. We do it by bringing the Get Real Program to the people who need it.
Our vision
A world where every person, starting in childhood, learns to handle their emotions, treat others well, and use their talents to contribute.
Why we exist
Most of us were never taught what to do when we feel angry, anxious, ashamed or overwhelmed. We learn to react, hide the feeling, or push through. Those habits hurt us, and they hurt the people around us.
We believe real change begins with people who like themselves. Liking yourself is not a mood. It grows from keeping promises to yourself, one choice at a time: acting on your values even when a hard feeling pulls the other way.
People who handle their emotions well are more effective, and effective people tend to want to give. That is the ripple we are after: individuals who feel steadier, families that fight less, classrooms that feel safer, and communities that look out for each other.
What we do
We raise money to fund the Get Real Programâ„¢ for kids who need it. Your support pays for the teaching, the materials and the coaching, so cost is never the reason a young person goes without these skills.
Along the way, we help more people understand that emotional intelligence is a skill anyone can learn. To support the work or bring the program to your school or group, see Get in touch.
The Get Real Program
The Get Real Program is a practical curriculum in emotional intelligence from Unorthodocs, Inc. Participants learn, practice and apply four sets of skills:
Happy People offers education and coaching. It is not therapy, and it works alongside any support a person already has.
Who we serve
We start with children and youth, through age 18, because skills learned early last the longest. Over time we will bring the program to families, professionals, workplaces and public institutions.
How we reach people
We meet people where they are. Our program can be delivered:
- Through educational partners. As part of a school or academic curriculum.
- Directly to individuals and families.
- Through other channels we identify as we grow.
How we measure success
Success means people whose lives get better: more capable, more engaged, and more active in school, work, family and community. With our first groups, we plan to track:
- Confidence. How participants rate their own ability to handle strong emotions, before and after.
- Everyday behavior. What teachers and parents notice at school and at home.
- Engagement. Whether participants stay with the program and use the skills.
We will share what we learn.
Who we are
Our board of directors and founder will be announced as we complete our organization.

For our advisors
Please tell us what rings true and what does not. We would especially like your view on:
- Does the mission read clearly to someone who has never heard of us?
- Is "Happy people act right" the right tagline, or does it need a different support line?
- Is "education and coaching, not therapy" the right framing for schools and families?
- What should "success" look like in numbers for the first year?
- Is it clear who benefits and how?
- What is missing that a school, parent or sponsor would want to know?
